The form that we\u2019ll look at in this lesson is simpler! It\u2019s used as an informal version of the future tense, and, in spoken Spanish, it\u2019s used way more than the proper future tense. Use this when you\u2019re speaking Spanish, and you\u2019ll sound like a pro in no time! <\/p>\n

Formation<\/h2>\n

Believe it or not, this is one of the simplest Spanish verb tenses to form. All you have to do is:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. 1<\/span>Conjugate the verb ir<\/em> (to go) in the present tense.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. 2<\/span>Add the word a<\/em> (to).<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. 3<\/span>Add the infinitive of whichever verb you want to use!<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    So for this tense, the only thing you need to know how to conjugate is the verb ir. Here\u2019s how to do it in the present tense:<\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n\n\t\n\t\n\t

    Using the future in the past<\/h2>\n

    Okay, so \u201cusing the future in the past\u201d sounds a bit crazy, but it will make sense with some examples. <\/p>\n

    Imagine you want to say \u201cI was going to study but I forgot.\u201d (Haven\u2019t we all been there? Forgot, got distracted, fell asleep…) You\u2019ll need to put ir in the imperfect tense (\u201cI was<\/strong> going to \u2026\u201d)<\/p>\n

    We use the same rules as earlier:<\/p>\n

        When you see an ir a<\/em> construction, don\u2019t just assume it\u2019s a future tense. For example, if it\u2019s \u201cir a<\/em> + place name\u201d rather than \u201cir a<\/em> + infinitive\u201d then it\u2019s just talking about going somewhere. When you come across it in text, the context should make it clear what\u2019s going on.<\/p>\n
